Ann Burdus was another formidable industry pioneer and a clever all-round business woman. Not only was she the first woman of any generation to reach the giddy heights of Chairman and Chief Executive of one of the largest UK agencies at the time, McCanns, but with her degree in Psychology she was able to draw on this knowledge to create a new form of market research. Working in London and also New York Ann rose quickly through the ranks eventually becoming Director of Strategic Planning and Development at Interpublic Group in 1981. She also went on to become the first woman Chairman of the Advertising Association (1981) and has held a number of other very senior positions outside of the industry. In the mid 1980s she was also a regular on Radio 4’s Any Questions.
