Charles, alongside his brother Maurice, is probably one of the most famous admen today. Although always reclusive, with a passion for discovering the new, Charles’s early career was at Benton & Bowles and CDP as a copywriter before he founded Cramer Saatchi in 1967 which became Saatchi & Saatchi when Cramer left in 1970. From the outset the brothers set upon a long, ferocious course of business acquisitions, at one point making a bid to run the Midland Bank. They worked on the premise that “nothing is impossible”. Charles left in 1995 to join his brother to set up rival agency M&C Saatchi, and taking clients and staff with them. Also a founder of The Saatchi Gallery (1985).
