Chris Ingram is a media entrepreneur who started his career in 1960 as a junior in an agency media department. By 1972 he was the man promoting and fronting a new media independent startup for the KIMPHER Group. Called The Media Department it became hampered by the three-day week and by 1976 Chris had left to form his own company, Chris Ingram Associates (CIA). Despite its own shaky start, CIA eventually began to thrive with the rising demand for specialist media buying and to expand into a European network as part of the new single market. The idea of a standalone media company was gradually accepted as the norm and CIA was later infamously purchased by WPP.
