Marion Jean Lyon(d.1940)

Marion Jean Lyon, was the founder President of the Woman’s Advertising Club of London in 1923. She was a formidable Scotswoman who came to London in 1906 and worked her way up to become Advertising Manager of Punch, one of the most important and highly paid positions in Fleet Street. She is the only woman to have held such an important position in the early twentieth century. Her obvious involvement in the formation of WACL also shows someone who was happy to lead and is all the more remarkable because it came a good eight years before women were granted the right to vote on the same terms as men.
