Sir Martin is the founder and chief executive of the world’s largest communications services group, WPP. Having helped to build Saatchi & Saatchi into a world leader as its group finance director, in 1985 he invested personally in a small, listed manufacturer of wire baskets and teapots as a vehicle to create a global advertising and marketing services firm. In 1987, as CEO of Wire & Plastic Products (by then renamed simply as WPP), he stunned the agency world with the takeover of Madison Avenue giant J. Walter Thompson, repeating the feat two years later with Ogilvy & Mather. Today, Sir Martin is one of the world’s most respected and high-profile businessmen. In 2016 Harvard Business Review named him the best-performing CEO in the UK and the second best-performing in the world.
