Stephen King(b.1931 d.2006)

Stephen was an unlikely adman: rigorous, disciplined and an original thinker he hated pretension, jargon and intellectual laziness. He spent his most of his working life at J Walter Thompson, known fondly by the business as the “University of Advertising” and is famous for creating the discipline of account planning: a simple and systematic approach to working out advertising strategy and measuring its effect which is the accepted way of thinking in advertising agencies all over the world. Stephen was also one of the first people to recognise and describe the power of brands. His book “What is a Brand?” published in 1971 remains one of the clearest explanations of the subject.
