Steve was Founder/Creative Director of Howell Henry Chaldecott Lury which burst onto the scene in 1987 in what was already a decade of huge creativity. They were different because the work they produced was often irreverent and sometimes controversial. Think of “You’ve been Tangoed”. He was the brains behind HHCL’s social agenda and for a brief time in the early 1990s it was he who led the rest of the media in the way it portrayed a changing British society. HHCL ads featured Black, Chinese and South Asian Britons with cockney, Glaswegian and Scouse accents when everyone else was still serving up exotic locations or stereotypes. He is an unrivalled creator of culture.
